How I Create and Select My Music

Sometimes I’ll have sections that I’m not quite sure how they fit in the puzzle of a tune, they’ll get moved around; what I think was originally a verse ends up becoming the chorus, or what’s an intro gets dropped as a hook, things get shifted around a lot. Feelings aroused by the touch of someone’s hand, the sound of music, the smell of a flower, a beautiful sunset, a work of art, love, laughter, hope and faith – all work on both the unconscious and the conscious aspects of the self, and they have physiological consequences as well.

Someone asked, “where does the producer get his inspiration from?” Inspiration comes from so many sources. Music, other fiction, the non-fiction I read, TV shows, films, news reports, people I know, stories I hear, misheard words or lyrics, dreams… Motivation? The memory of the rush I get from a really good writing session – even on a bad day, I know I’ll find that again if I keep going.

I think music is so diverse today, and bands are so diverse. If you were a rock band in the Eighties, you kind of had to stick to one thing. Now, in this age of  music festivals and stuff, it’s kind of anything goes, so that allowed us to try different things.

When you make music, you’re forming these invisible vibrations in the air into different shapes and consistencies and speeds in order to create music, and understanding how the math of that works just gives you more colors to paint with, and allows you to get to what you want quicker.

Sometimes I choose songs that would make me feel a particular kind of way. For instance if I wake up to say prayers of study the Word, barely would you find me playing Hip Hip (CHH) or Trap. I would rather fall on a slow worship song with a volume set to about -8dB. this sets me in the mood for prayer. Alternatively, if I am going for a run, I do not expect myself to fall on slow worship music. I’d rather hop onto some upbeat song, like some Christian EDM or Techno. I would just say, as a creator or a listener, figure what your mood is like, then select a song that would match your mood. If you’re in doubt, just get in touch and I will help you
